In Syrdarya discussed the role of public control in the implementation of state programmes aimed at young people

The Regional Division of the Centre for Analysis of Democratic Processes in Syrdarya Region organised a round table on "The role of public control in the implementation of state programmes aimed at youth".

The event was attended by staff of the Office of the Syrdarya Regional Youth Affairs Agency, representatives of the Syrdarya regional branch of the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, youth leaders from mahallas, representatives of civil society institutions working with young people, and representatives of the media.

The main objective of the event, held within the framework of state subsidies of the Public Foundation under the Oliy Majlis, was to strengthen public participation in the implementation of youth state programmes, improve mechanisms of public control, and increase the effectiveness of youth-oriented state programmes.

As noted during the round table, in recent years the country has been implementing large-scale reforms aimed at supporting young people. In particular, the activities of youth leaders have been introduced in nearly 10,000 mahallas, a system has been established for the prompt resolution of youth problems locally, and the time frame for considering youth appeals has been reduced from 30 to 5 days. On the recommendation of youth leaders, more than 25 types of support have been introduced, including covering the costs of contract training, training in modern professions, subsidies for the purchase of working tools and other measures.

At the same time, the lack of effectiveness of public control mechanisms was critically discussed during the event. In particular, the issues of irrational use of land allocated for agriculture, non-transparent distribution of grants for entrepreneurial activities, problems in training young people in professional skills and other topical issues were raised.

The round table explored the opinions, proposals and existing problems of young people in matters of social control, discussed measures to involve young people in the processes of social control, improve government programmes on the basis of their proposals and eliminate the identified problems.

In general, the event became a constructive discussion platform aimed at strengthening public control over the implementation of state youth programmes, increasing youth activism and addressing their pressing issues.
