Strengthening the connection between the deputy and the electorate.

The stronger the interaction between representatives of the people and their voters, the more effective will be the socio-political processes in society. This important goal was the subject of a round table on ‘Issues of developing relations between deputies of local councils with voters and party deputy groups’, organised by the Kashkadarya Regional Branch of the Centre for Analysis of Democratic Processes and the Kashkadarya Regional Council of People's Deputies.

The event focused on strengthening the dialogue between deputies of local councils and voters, ensuring an understanding of the tasks facing party deputy groups and the work being done in this area. The content of the Constitution, the Electoral Code, the Local Self-Government Act, the Act on the Status of Deputies of Regional, District and City Councils of People's Deputies and other legal and regulatory instruments were widely disseminated in order to enhance the deputies' legal knowledge.
The round table was attended by deputies of the Kashkadarya provincial, city and district councils of people's deputies, political parties, the Kashkadarya provincial branch of the Centre for Analysis of Democratic Processes, and representatives of the media.
Speakers at the event noted that there are 60 deputies of the provincial and 400 deputies of the city and district councils in Kashkadarya province and emphasised the need for them to maintain constant communication with voters and parties. It was also noted that a four-level system of interaction ‘Voter - deputy - khokim - Kengash’ has been introduced, for the effective functioning of which deputies need to organise regular meetings with the population in their districts.
It was noted that the possibilities of deputies of local councils to study public opinion, identify issues that need to be resolved and submit them in the form of proposals to the relevant executive authorities have been further expanded. Timely consideration and practical solution of these proposals by the executive authorities was assessed as a practical result of interaction between the deputy corps and khokimiyats.
The round table was held in the format of active discussions. The participants received answers to questions of interest and exchanged opinions on how to organise the activities of local councils more effectively. It was emphasised that deputies are not only the main force protecting the interests of voters, but also an important link connecting them with public authorities to solve local problems.
Therefore, as a result of today's discussions, it is expected to introduce new mechanisms aimed at further strengthening the activities of deputies of local councils, practical support of their powers, strengthening interaction with voters.
